Learning scales (especially all the major scales) is essential and will improve all aspects of your musical understanding.
Scales are the basis for building harmony, recognising intervals at the keyboard and hearing intervals quickly. Repeated practise will also mean that your fingers will play them “without thought” (conscious thought) and you will automatically use learnt finger patterns in pieces, making fingering a far more simple process.
The scales here (you can download the complete set of piano major scales using the PDF link above) are presented in order of keys, becoming more complex .
Most beginners prefer this but I like an alternative approach which uses groups of finger patterns. It’s more difficult to read but once you’ve got past that it’s easier for the fingers.
